At CRIS Cancer Foundation, we do more than fund cancer research—we also take part in scientific projects as members of national and international research consortia.  


Through our involvement, we contribute our expertise by acting as a bridge between science and society. This section showcases the projects in which we collaborate, not as funders, but as strategic partners supporting scientific progress and bringing together collective efforts in the fight against cancer.

High-Definition Medicine in Breast, Lung and Colorectal Cancer – The Digital Twins Project in Cancer

Principal Researcher: Dr Miguel Quintela

Centre: National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO) / Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Oncológicas, Madrid

Dr Miguel Ángel Quintela leads an ambitious research programme aimed at tackling cancer through personalised, high-definition medicine. To achieve this, patients are monitored comprehensively, with data collected not only on clinical and molecular factors, but also on environmental influences, behaviours and lifestyle.

By integrating all of these data using artificial intelligence, the project will generate predictive patient models, known as digital twins. In the future, these models will support the personalised evaluation of treatments, help predict disease progression, and guide the most appropriate clinical management for each patient, ultimately improving treatment outcomes and responses to therapy.

SEHOP-PENCIL Project

Principal Researcher: Dr Lucas Moreno and Dr Aroa Soriano

Centre: Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) / Vall d'Hebron Institut de Recerca (VHIR), Barcelona

The PENCIL Project, led by Dr Aroa Soriano and Dr Lucas Moreno in collaboration with the Spanish Society of Paediatric Haematology and Oncology (SEHOP), aims to ensure that all children with cancer in Spain have access to personalised medicine, regardless of the hospital where they receive treatment.

This initiative has established a national genetic diagnostics network that enables the analysis of tumour DNA to identify the most appropriate treatment for each individual case. Thanks to the project, dozens of hospitals have already joined the network and hundreds of patients have been studied, bringing closer the goal of ensuring that every child receives a treatment tailored to the specific characteristics of their disease, with greater effectiveness and fewer side effects.

MORESCREEN Project

Principal Researcher: Dr Amadix, Valladolid

The MORESCREEN Project aims to improve the early detection of colorectal cancer through an innovative test based on a simple blood sample, a method that is far less invasive than conventional colonoscopies and stool-based screening tests.

This study, led by a European consortium with the participation of CRIS Cancer Foundation (CRIS Contra el Cáncer), Ramón y Cajal University Hospital, and several international centres, is evaluating the effectiveness of the PreveCol® test in identifying blood-based biomarkers that may indicate the early presence of colorectal cancer.

If its clinical utility is confirmed, this tool could transform colorectal cancer prevention and screening by making it more accessible, faster and safer for the wider population.
